Are Cyber Schools a Better Way to Learn?

SIMPSON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- Thousands of students across the state of Pennsylvania are enrolled in online alternative education, or cyber schools. And their popularity continues to grow. We spent time with some students who are enrolled in the Pennsylvania Virtual Charter School to get a feel for just what is involved.

For 16-year-old Jonathan Mall it’s easy to get to school. It’s consists of a walk of about 15 steps, from one room to another in his family’s Simpson home. Jonathan is enrolled in PA Virtual Charter School. Classes are offered by way of the internet.

Jonathan’s mom, Anita Mall, and dad, George Mall, said they’re sold on the system. Three of their kids are now enrolled in the online school.

“Each of the children have separate schedules and they can log into their blackboard, get announcements for the day, email their teachers, go into classes, or whatever their classes are for that day” explained Anita.
